Because windows are an important component of the house, helping in the insulation and improving the ambiance by allowing natural light in, it becomes important to pay a lot more attention to it too. Dressing your windows will improve the appearance of your interior. Knowing the different types available so you can make a proper choice should prove advantageous to you.

Different Types of Window Treatment

Different Curtain Panel Types

An important aspect of choosing curtains or drapes are the panel tops. There are different kinds to address different functions, so be mindful of which you choose. Among the most common panel tops include the rings, which use rings to hang the curtain panels onto the curtain rod; tab-top panels, or those that have loops of fabrics instead of metal rings to hang onto the rod, or rod-pockets, wherein the pleated top of the panels have a small opening in the middle where the rod could pass through.

The ring type is the easiest to use for drawing back curtains, while the rod-pockets are the most difficult. If you’re going to use the rod-pockets therefore, it would probably be more advisable for you to use it on windows that don’t always get opened, or one where you wouldn’t have to draw the curtains every so often.

Shades

In case curtains aren’t your thing, you can instead go for shades, or fabric panels that have good coverage for long or wide window frames. The difference from curtains is that shades are specifically designed to fit the frame, and so cannot be parted and drawn. Instead, you use a roller or a cord to pull up the shade, bunching it up as it goes.

Blinds

Like shades, blinds are also lifted up or down. Unlike shades, however, blinds are made of slats (otherwise known as louvers, which you peer from or let light filter through. Blinds can be made of various materials such as wood, vinyl, bamboo, or even aluminum. It is very effective in providing privacy, even when you don’t want to completely shut yourself out from the outside world. Just adjust the slats and you can control the visibility of the room from the outside.
